Coastal Tutorial - Sniper Elite 5 - Atlantikwall

Normandy, 1944. The Axis is on the run. But an animal is most dangerous when it’s cornered- and the Reich is bearing its teeth. The German’s are fortifying the coast, building their great 'Atlantikwall'. The cracks need to be found before Europe crumbles. With the air raid distraction, we’ll break onto French sand, destroy the defences and secure the beachhead under the cover of darkness. The tide of the war is turning, and we'll be the wave that busts the Nazi bite.

The tutorial is the first playable space in Sniper Elite 5 which I defined the look and feel of, from blockout to polish. I created the crumbling cliffs, coves, caves, beaches and buildings, composing the coastline with photogrammetry scans. Naturally, the tutorial went through several dev cycles as art and gameplay were refined.

Thanks to LD’s Beck Shaw and Helene Vellevoog who I collaborated closely with throughout SE5’s production.

Special thanks to Lead Environment Artist Simon Richards for the essential feedback. Additional lighting support from Adam Tinning.
